Q&A with Phil Morgan, Director at Inform Mortgages

We caught up with Phil to talk about his career, what drives his approach to advice, and life at Inform Mortgages.

What did your career look like before joining Inform Mortgages?
I’ve spent over 40 years across retail banking, estate agency and financial services. Along the way, I’ve led subsidiaries for a major estate agency brand and later set up my own business in South Wales. That’s still going today, with 24 advisers supporting clients across the UK.

What does a typical Tuesday look like in your world?
No two days are ever the same. Most Tuesdays involve coaching trainee advisers, working on lead generation and building relationships with new introducers. I also spend time working with John Delaney on growing Inform Mortgages.

Evenings should be for UEFA Champions League football… but as a Manchester United fan, I might be waiting a while!

What’s the biggest misconception about mortgage brokers?
That we’re only interested in what we can get out of it.

In reality, it’s the opposite. We focus on getting the best outcome for the client and making sure they understand everything along the way. That’s what builds trust and long-term relationships.

One piece of advice for first-time buyers?
Don’t go it alone.

Having a good broker makes the whole process far less stressful and gives you confidence from start to finish. It’s about having someone in your corner.

What’s at the heart of your customer service at Inform Mortgages?
It’s simple, getting the best possible outcome for every client.

We want people to walk away having had a great experience and feeling confident enough to recommend us.

How do you stay ahead in a constantly changing market?
By staying connected. We run regular training, attend industry events, hold monthly adviser meetings and stay in close contact as a team. It means we’re always up to date and ready to support our clients properly.

If you weren’t in mortgages, what would you be doing?
Probably running a burger van! I enjoy cooking and chatting to people, so it would suit me perfectly.

YOUR HOME MAY BE REPOSSESSED IF YOU DO NOT KEEP UP REPAYMENTS ON YOUR MORTGAGE

There may be a fee for mortgage advice. The precise amount will depend upon your circumstances and will be agreed with you before proceeding but we estimate it will be £995 unless you are being referred to us by your employer as part of your workplace benefits scheme or one of our New House Building Partners, in which case our mortgage advice is a fee free service.
